Week 4 is all about lesson plans! How to do them, why they are important, what to put in them and what not to put in them. I think the structure of the lesson plan is good in that it sets out exactly how the lesson is going to run and what materials you need to run the lesson etc. However looking at the plan is a little daunting! Obviously reference to VELS is essential but some of the other headings are a little scary! I think once we have structured one as a whole class on the leapfrog activity the process will become clearer and easier to understand. This will also assist us whilst on practicum and will give us an insight into how much work actually goes into teaching!
Totally agree Bre! It's all very new, and I think everyone was a little confused before today but the activity we did in the tute was really beneficial. It will be great to see the finished leapfrog lesson plan so we can refer back to it when doing other lesson plans. I was a bit confused when doing the group set up section as it seemed to repeat the procedure part, anyone else think so? I think it's just a more simplistic section though, probably don't need as much detail as the procedure??? Thanks to Pete, great lecture and class activity, really helped!
This week was such a relief to have something concrete with lesson plans, now we know the basic structure of classes we can build everything else we learn on top of this. I think we will all get stressed over making lesson plans initially, especially before we have been in a school and seen them applied to actual classes, but once we get the hang of them they won't be as overwhelming as they seem now. In reference to previous comment (who was that?), It was a bit hard with all groups doing different parts of the plan, as we doubled up on where to put bits of procedure and ideas, but I guess when we are doing the whole thing ourselves we can just put it in one section. A few of them seemed to be quite interchangable anyway. Not much more to say, it was all fairly straightforward, I think we all have a much better idea how to go about our assessments and also think about practicum.
There's not too much I can say that you guys haven’t already said. Thanks to Pete and the teaching staff for pushing this forward so that everyone can feel a bit more comfortable with the lesson plan concept. I'm sure this lecture and the activity in the tutorial will be extremely beneficial for all of us going into the future.
